The university was initially established in 1964 as a humanity-based institution (Abdullahi Bayero College) with only ten students (awarded Ahmadu Bello University degrees), it changed into Bayero University in 1976 awarding its own degrees. Join us in BUK to study the course of your choice. There are about thirty four thousand undergraduate students enrolled currently in the university. Several courses offered with different durations say four, five years and more.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Friday, 24 July 2026, at the Deanery of Student Affairs, Professor Musa described the expansion of the campus transport fleet as part of the University's commitment to enhancing students' welfare and providing efficient transportation services.
