Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has officially inducted 133 newly qualified medical professionals at its 11th Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 25th MBBS Induction Ceremony. The event, held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Convocation Arena, marked a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to producing top-tier healthcare professionals.

A total of 118 medical doctors and 15 dentists took the oath of allegiance, formally joining the noble professions of medicine and dentistry.

Administering the oath, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari, charged the new inductees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and patient confidentiality. She also announced that the MDCN had recently increased the admission quota for medical students at BUK, a move aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors in Nigeria.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Aliyu Muazu, congratulated the new doctors and urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of BUK. He highlighted the university’s recent recognition by Times Higher Education (UK), where BUK emerged as Nigeria’s best university in terms of international outlook, reinforcing its reputation as one of Africa’s leading institutions in medical education.

Delivering the keynote address, Medical Elder, Professor Muutasim Ibrahim, advised the new doctors to embrace lifelong learning, echoing BUK’s motto: “Above every possessor of knowledge, there is one more learned.”

The ceremony also recognized academic excellence, with Dr. Hassana Abubakar Musa emerging as the overall best MBBS graduate, while Dr. Amina Umar Giade was awarded as the best graduating student in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

The event was attended by distinguished faculty members, medical professionals, and proud family members, celebrating the achievements of the newest additions to Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.
