The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Bayero University, Kano Branch, held a special event on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, to celebrate the recent appointment of distinguished members of staff as Directors in the Registry and Bursary Departments of the University.
The newly appointed Directors in the Registry Department are Halima Hayat (General Administration), Altine Maryam Ali, Mrs. Anisatu Uwais, and Dr. Garba Barume (Registry Department). In the Bursary Department, . Usman Gomina Ohikere (Director, Final Accounts and Reporting/Budget) and Mr. Rabiu Ibrahim Mai Tafsir (Director, Revenue and External Assistance/Expenditure) were also honoured.
In his remarks, SSANU Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Aminu, described the occasion as a historic milestone in the University’s administrative evolution. He noted that the appointments marked a significant breakthrough for non-teaching staff, who have now expanded their leadership footprint with additional directorates, thereby boosting prospects for career progression and enhancing administrative efficiency within the University.
Comrade Aminu expressed deep appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, and the Registrar, Haruna Aliyu, for their unwavering support and foresight in facilitating these appointments, describing their efforts as instrumental to the growth and inclusiveness of the University system.
Speaking at the event, Registrar Haruna Aliyu congratulated the appointees and urged them to bring their wealth of experience and professionalism to bear in strengthening the administration of the University. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility, urging all non-teaching staff to continue demonstrating excellence, resilience, and dedication in their various roles.
He further revealed that the Registry Department had embarked on transformative reforms aimed at modernizing administrative processes, including the automation of transcript processing. A taskforce, he said, has been constituted to oversee the digitization initiative, which will soon eliminate the bureaucratic hurdles traditionally associated with transcript collection.
In their responses, the newly appointed Directors expressed gratitude to the University Management for the confidence reposed in them. They pledged to work collaboratively with the Registry and University management in advancing the University’s goals and improving service delivery.
The event also featured a series of goodwill messages from staff and well-wishers, including Hauwa Abdullahi Dambatta, who represented the National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim; former SSANU Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Baba Mandawari; Comrade Ladi Musa of NASU; Farida Kamba, Ma’ruf Zakariya, Dr. Ahmed Ali Yakasai, among others.
The celebration ended on a high note, reflecting not only a recognition of individual accomplishments but also a collective aspiration toward a more inclusive and progressive Bayero University, Kano.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of plaques and certificates of congratulations by SSANU to all the newly appointed Directors. The Registrar led the presentations.
