As the Zone E preliminaries of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) kick off on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Wudil, the Director of Sports at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Rabi’u Mohammed, has charged the University’s athletes to display exceptional sportsmanship and make the institution proud.

Addressing the athletes at the Sports Directorate, Old Campus, Professor Mohammed described them as worthy ambassadors of BUK, emphasizing the need to uphold the University’s enviable reputation as Nigeria’s leading institution in international visibility. He cautioned them against any conduct that could tarnish the University’s image.

Expressing confidence in their readiness, the Director commended the athletes for their impressive training sessions and commitment, expressing optimism that they would excel in all events and qualify for the main NUGA Games scheduled to hold next month at the University of Jos.

Professor Mohammed also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, for his unwavering support and sponsorship of the team. He described him as a sports-loving administrator who has consistently provided the necessary logistics and encouragement to ensure BUK’s successful participation. He expressed confidence that the Vice-Chancellor would continue his support by sponsoring the athletes when they qualify for the main NUGA Games scheduled to hold next month at the University of Jos.

In their goodwill messages, the Deputy Directors of Sports (Technical and Administration), Professor Aliyu Madaki and Malam Ahmad Tijjani Salisu Sa’id, urged the athletes to give their best performances and to represent the University with discipline, teamwork, and integrity.

Similarly, the Chief Football Coach, Ibrahim Isyaku Ibrahim, reminded the athletes of the importance of discipline, moral conduct, and respect throughout the competition.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Baba Faith Eze from the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education expressed gratitude to the University management for their support. She assured that the athletes were determined to qualify in all categories and represent BUK with pride at the national stage.

Bayero University, Kano, will compete alongside the host institution, ADUST Wudil, Federal University Dutse, Northwest University Kano, and Jigawa State University, Kafin Hausa, in the Zone E preliminaries.
